On March 9th, 2004, the local World Future Society in
Colorado Springs hosted a special evening on "Designing the Army of the
Future."
TOPIC: "Designing the Army
of the Future"
DATE: March
9, Tuesday, 7:00 pm
LOCATION: Warehouse
Restaurant,
ADDRESS:
25 W Cimarron St. (map)
SPEAKER: Dave Applin, SAIC
Dave Applin is a retired Army officer, with more than 20 years of
intelligence experience. He now serves as Advanced Technology manager with Science Applications Int'l Corp
and is working on lead systems integration for the "Army
Future Combat System Program," to be deployed in this decade.
Applin talked about how DOD and DARPA
technology concepts have now moved into system demonstration across the
entire spectrum of military operations from major theater wars through counter
terrorism to homeland security. During the meeting we explored how future
studies has been applied to military force transformation, through the
anticipation of "New Doctrine, New Technologies, and New Capabilities for the
Future Force."
We met at the Warehouse Restaurant located on the southern edge of the
downtown area. That is two blocks east of Exit 141 off I-25, and one block west
of Cascade, on the south side. The Warehouse (719-475-8880), provides a full
aesthetic experience, from beers brewed on the premises, excellent food and a
visual art gallery.
There was no cover charge for the meeting. Although this was not a
dinner meeting folks could order from the restaurant if you wished.
WHAT IS THE WORLD FUTURE
SOCIETY? We don't gaze at crystal balls...We
don't read tea leaves...We don't study ancient prophecy or even "predict"
things...We are futurists. We think like scientists and scholars. We have our
own methodology and terminology for exploring what possible futures might await
society. We meet monthly in the Pikes Peak Area. Visit our
