Contests
Secret Agent 100121
By Emily R., Contest #200906

The air smelled of summer rain and fresh roses but that didn't matter anymore. No stopping to smell the flowers. Something was chasing me, but I didn't know what it was.  I could hear its breathing, muddled against mine.  I could see its shadow, mysterious and intimidating compared to my own. Suddenly my legs failed me and I started to fall. It seemed like an eternity before I hit the muddy ground. Everything went black.

When my eyes fluttered open I saw where I was -- in a wet and moldy basement. I tried to scream but something was preventing me. There was tape over my mouth, and wrapped around my wrists and ankles. A man with a black beard was next to me.

"Are you willing to be quiet now? I can take off that nasty tape. Good," he said and ripped off the tape. "You are a secret agent.  I brought you here to complete your training.  Now that you are twelve, Addie Craw, you may get your badge and be relocated to a secret home.  The commander there will tell you everything else."

He handed me a small satchel and finished, "Good luck, Agent 100121."
