Contests
Cupid undone
By Greta Browne, Contest #200802

Cupid was at it again, searching for the most unlikely characters to target with his sharp and accurate arrows. This year he felt adventurous for his allotted twenty-four hours as mischievous matchmaker so he headed south to unknown territories. “Love works alike all over the world,” he thought to himself as he fluttered his tiny magical wings and sped like a comet toward the balmy island of Itaperica, just off the tropical coast of Brazil.

Little did he know that other sprites and angels were out and about in the Southern Hemisphere. As he swooped down to look more closely at a lovely female figure rising gracefully from the ocean, he felt a sudden prickling along his arm and he crashed awkwardly into the sea. Before he could panic gentle hands reached down to pull him up and the soft arms of the lovely lady held him close to her bosom.

“Ah, you sweet little fellow,” she exclaimed, planting a warm kiss on his forehead, “it looks like the Saci-Pererę got you with his magic love potion. I will release you, my dear, for I have too many lovers already.”

Poor Cupid! He wanted no release, he was besmitten.
