Contests
Cronicles of Dunkan Black
By Daniel Blair, Contest #200809

On the way to grandma’s house, what’s that song?  Over the river and through the woods? Grandma. That’s what it’s called. My job is to search for grandma. Jobs get stranger everyday.

“You were born to do this, Duncan,” I tell myself. I talk to myself a lot more now. Maybe it’s this winter rain while driving on this ragged country road. It feels like I’m floating on this cold rainy air.

I’m a slayer of evil, born of a blood line who carry the sword. Men like Hikim the destroyer or even the great king Arthur.

Now it’s my turn. The Chosen One is what my keepers call me at Black Sec. It’s hard to believe my ancestors wore different colors, but here I am doing what I was born for, hunting grandma in a nowhere town on a rainy evening. This being eats children and must not be allowed to exist.

I arrive and knock on the door. There’s no answer but I hear children whimpering. My hard kick breaks down the door and I see her and do my job. She dies quickly and the resulting smoke and brimstone free the children. My job is done.
