Eat Your Vegetables
By Christine Ford, Contest #200704

It was not that Sam didn’t appreciate his mom cooking a nutritious meal. After all, she was a good cook who also had worked all day. Sam especially liked the vegetables she served for dinner. He loved their bright colors, their crisp textures and garden fresh taste. It was when he had to go to school the next day that things got embarrassing.

Whenever Sam ate his vegetables, amazing things would happen. He could sit in the back of the class and still see the writing on the chalkboard better than anyone else. He always got A’s on his tests and hardly had to study at all because his memory was sharp and clear too.

But it was on gym days that things got really embarrassing. When Sam ate his vegetables he could run faster and farther than anyone else. He breezed through push ups and sit ups and even the pull ups on the metal bar. In games he always made the basket or got the serve over the net, too.

No, it was not that Sam didn’t appreciate his Moms’ nutritious meals. He just wished that all the other kids’ moms served them vegetables, too!
