In Eragon, by Christopher Paolini, the first book in the Inheritance trilogy, the author makes a very vivid and complex world that is hard to believe is not real. The story is entertaining, surprising, and suspenseful. When you think the story is slowing down, something jumps out at you to pick it all up again and make you keep reading. The main character, Eragon himself, is somebody you can immediately relate to and sympathize with.

When Eragon finds a dragon egg in the mysterious woods, he thinks it is a beautiful stone and tries to sell it at the market. When he takes it home for the evening-well, it brings a baby dragon. He soon begins his journey to find the ra'zac, two creatures serving the evil king, who destroyed his house and killed his uncle. Armed with an old storyteller, his faithful dragon, and his own bow and arrow, he sets out for revenge. This is a great read. I recommend it.
