Contests
Geeze Laweeze
By Ron Heimbecher (aka Goblet), Contest #200806

He smelled something burning, but all Wilbur could think about was to run faster. Maybe it was his house. Goodness! Not his house, not his collection of Batman memorabilia, not his faithful gerbil Henrietta!

Geeze Laweeze he hoped his house was not what he smelled burning. He crossed the top of the ridge. His beautiful house was safe. No smoke, no flames, no crackle of wood.

But Wilbur still smelled something burning. His barn! Oh no! What if his barn was burning? His summer hay, his beautiful horse Esmerelda, his 1922 REO Speedwagon with the wooden bed and big brass horn. All gone!

He ran past the house and saw his wonderful barn. But he still smelled something burning.

Wilbur ran up the hill, he ran down the hill, but still smelled something burning. His legs began to hurt, not from achy muscles, but from something else, and he didn't know what. Wilbur screeched to a stop and looked down. Smoke curled from his shoes and the cuffs of his jeans were on fire from running way too fast.
