Have you visited the College Board's website recently? Normally you would go there when registering for your SATs and other standardized tests. You will also find a wealth of information to help you choose a career. Under their Major & Career Profiles, in the career column, we clicked "Media and Communications" and gave a quick look to various writing-related careers. We've posted below some of these categories and the definition the site gives for each, along with the average salary you could expect to earn in careers such as:

Copywriter - "Copywriters use the written word to entice consumers to buy products." They averaged $32.56/hour in 2003.
Editors - "Editors review writers' work and make suggestions or changes to make text stronger." According to the the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, editors earned an average salary of $48,210 in 2003.
Translators - "Translators read written materials, which can range from poetry to technical manuals, in one language and write it in another." According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, interpreters and translators earned an estimated average yearly salary of $36,500 in 2003.
Writers - "Writers develop text for publications, such as books, magazines, websites, and newsletters. They also create material for radio and TV broadcasts, movies, and plays." Income depends on number of manuscripts you sell in a given year.
Technical Writers - "Technical writers create material, such as instruction manuals, related to science and technology." According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, interpreters and translators earned an estimated average yearly salary of $54,250 in 2003.
Interpreters - "Interpreters help individuals or groups communicate with each other by orally translating from one language to another." According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, interpreters and translators earned an estimated average yearly salary of $36,500 in 2003.
