The Hunter
By Cheryl Johnson, Contest #200709

The look in the tiger’s eyes was one of anticipation. A fire, a hunger emanated from the piercing blue orbs. He had tasted his first success and thirsted for more.

I feared for my very life. Looking around quickly, I felt my heart in my throat. It couldn’t be! Then I saw it. A fresh bag. Ripping the bag quickly, I grabbed a handful of candy bars and breathed a sigh of relief. We hadn’t run out of candy after all. I winked at the adorable 3-year-old in the tiger costume as I dropped the loot into his flashing pumpkin.

“Happy Halloween!” I smiled as the little tyke ran off into the night, eager for his next conquest.
