This was her chance to prove herself and Brown had hit the jackpot. She had found the clue that no one else had. But nothing could prepare her for what happened next. She rushed up to the chief of her precinct beaming. “Chief. I’ve found a print.” The Chief was a large man, almost 7 foot tall, with a handle bar moustache. He was older, but ageing well, his hair transitioning from black to silver very smoothly. “Good work Brown. I’ll run it through AFIS right now.” The guy they were looking for had been on the run for over a month and had killed 6 teenage girls from the same district. Brown was anxious, and, as she realized when she scanned the room, so was everyone else. The computer beeped and her gaze was brought abruptly back to the screen. In glowing green letters, it read, “Match Found.” The sound of keys tapping had suddenly ceased and a wave of horror crossed the faces of everyone in the room. Just as quickly, all eyes were on the Chief and he murmured, “Sergeant Jennings… He’s a cop…” |
