Mesmerized

He smelled something burning but was unsure of where it was coming from. Kevin was so mesmerized by his new video game that he didn’t hear his Mom ask him to watch the roast cooking in the oven. He was oblivious to everything around him including the smoke that was now beginning to shimmy its way under the french doors.

One thing Kevin wasn’t ignoring was that growling and grumbling in his belly. He was famished. Kevin decided to take a break and make a run for the kitchen.

When Kevin opened the french doors he was horrified to see a room full of smoke. Scared Kevin slammed the door shut. Frantically he grabbed a blanket and the phone dialing 911 as he fell to the floor. Crawling to the window he excitedly told the operator of his emergency.

By now he was in the window putting the skills he had learned as a boy scout to good use. Kevin quickly tied some blankets together. He lowered his cat, Fluffy to safety. He then lowered himself out onto the ledge.

Suddenly the rope gave way! Just in time, he heard a voice. “Don’t fret son…we will save you!”
