Cupid's Mistake
By Abigail H., Contest #200802

Cupid was at it again, flying around looking for someone to shoot.  He saw this really pretty lady and decided to look around for a gentleman for her.

Cupid flew all day, looking everywhere, trying to find the perfect guy.  He saw a very handsome man with a bouquet of flowers and decided to shoot him while the pretty lady was in front of the man. As soon as the arrow hit, they ran toward each other. When they met, they kissed and he handed her the bouquet. Then they went their own way.

Cupid was ecstatic, but soon learned that the couple was not getting along. He wondered why and checked his “Love Manual.” In his manual he read that arrows don’t work if the person already has a true love. “So the guy must have a true love,” Cupid thought.  “I’ll just shoot everyone in this town and find his true love!”

And that's just what he did, but when no one else was affected by his arrows he thought to himself, “Oh, I guess they’re in love and each other's true love after all.  Well, my work here is definitely done.  My mission is complete.”
