Holiday Favorites
Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
By Grace Ruth, Holiday Favorite: 1204

My favorite holiday title is: Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree

I am: Grace Ruth, Children's Materials Selection Specialist, San Francisco Public Library.

This book is my favorite because: "This has long been a family favorite, even though it lacks the flash of more recent titles. The story is simple and satisfying. A variety of animals enjoy Mr. Willowby's too-tall tree as the top continues to be cut off, discarded, then used again by a new family."

Publisher Marketing: In Willowby's Christmas tree Came by special delivery. Full and fresh and glistening green -- The biggest tree he'd ever seen. That was the trouble. The tree was so tall, it couldn't stand up straight in his parlor. Mr. Willowby asked his butler to chop off the top of the tree. What happens to the tree-top? Where will it be for Christmas? Snuggle up with this story and follow along through a forest full of friendly creatures who get to share in a bit of Christmas joy.

First published in 1963, this charming tale about a Christmas tree that's just a little too tall for its parlor is now available in a full-color hardcover edition, meticulously repainted by author-illustrator Barry.
