Christine Gary, a member of the senior class at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has been recognized as a SCHOLAR in the National Hispanic Recognition Program, as announced by Principal Paul Martin.

 Christine Gary has been ranked at the top of her class academically at CMHS, is active in community service and is an All Star Cheerleader with CCA Cheer and Tumble, competing both regionally and at the national level with them. Next fall she hopes to attend college to pursue studies in genetics.  

The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a College Board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors, and identifies them for post-secondary institutions.

Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SATŪ/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. From more than 200,000 students nationwide, approximately 4,500 highest scoring students were initially identified as semifinalists. Based on further evidence of their academic achievement, a select group of 3,800 students have been recognized as a Scholar or Honorable Mention Finalist. Christine Gary is among these 3,400 Hispanic high school students who have been recognized as a Scholar in the recognition program.

The names of all Scholars and Honorable Mention Finalists are listed in the NHRP Publication, which has been released to colleges and universities to encourage them to seek out these talented Hispanic students as potential candidates for admission.
