That’s because last year was a total disaster. I asked Max to be my valentine but he asked Amy first. At that moment my cheeks started to turn red. So this year I’m just going to let someone ask me instead. I was standing in front of Mrs. Cross’s door and rang the doorbell. When she opened the door I felt the warm air blowing on my cold cheeks. She said, “How may I help you?” I said, “Why, hello there. I’m handing out valentines to the neighborhood.” “What a great idea,” said Mrs. Cross. “Now, let me see...aha!” I said, “Here’s yours.” “Why, thank you,” Mrs. Cross said. “And here is Max’s Valentine,” I said, “I was really hoping he would ask me to be his valentine this year.” “Well now, I sure hope he does!” Max’s mother said with a big grin on her face. “Happy Valentines Day!” I replied. Then I turned and walked away with a huge grin on my face because John had already asked me to be his valentine. It’s Max’s turn to have red cheeks!
