No one knew how he wished to be among them, to bathe in their light with his own eyes. Last night he sneaked up again to the city library, to look at a book about the stars and the universe. He loved that very much, particularly the pictures of different kinds of galaxies light years away. Tonight he laid on the sidewalk, the cold cement on his back, so he could have a better view of the night sky. He closed and opened his eyes and instantly found himself in total darkness. Then, without warning, a spinning group of stars came down upon him. Countless stars. Thousands! Millions! Trillions! He felt them. Touched them. Heard them! They talked to him and called him by name. He trapped one of them in his hand and felt its warmth. Then, before they completely engulfed him, he felt the cold cement on his back once more and all was as before. Only the stars, now light years away, gave light to the still night. He opened his hand and saw a firefly stuck there. Had it been a dream? Maybe…maybe no…
