Contests
Seeds
By Kathy O'Lear, Contest #200804

She took one of the mysterious seeds and tossed it into the air. She watched as it slowly floated through the air. It floated toward a mountain stream. Curious the young girl ran to the bank of the stream. Slowly fluttering in the slight breeze the seed descended to the water. Suddenly a trout jumped out of the cool water. With a snap of its mouth and a flip of its tail the trout dropped back into the stream. The girl could see the seed floating on the surface. She watched the seed slowly sink into the clear water and disappear.

She sighed and shrugged her shoulder.

She reached back into the brown paper bag and drew out another mysterious seed and tossed it into the air.  The seed floated toward a stand of Aspen trees whose leaves swayed gently in the breeze. Suddenly and swiftly a hawk dove toward the seed. With an ear piercing screech the hawk swooped back into the sky. The seed slowly disappeared into the swaying leaves of the trees.

The girl sighed and mumbled under her breath.

She took another mysterious seed out of the bag and tossed it into the air.
