Stupid Cupid
By Stephanie Hanouw, Contest #200802

Cupid was at it again...looking for a friend.  The kids called him Stupid Cupid.  He cried a lot because of it; but, hey, a naked, plump, pink kid with tiny wings has a way of getting overlooked in the respect department.

“There must be something I can do to make them like me,” sighed Cupid.

As he plodded away from the laughing kids, he stomped really hard on a pile of slushy February snow.   The ice bullets flew in all directions.  One landed right next to something red which caught his attention.  Cupid poked around and harvested from the snow bank a bright red bow and three tiny arrows.

He mischievously set an arrow on the string.  With a twinkle in his eye, he pulled back. ZING! The arrow flew out of sight.

Seconds later he heard, “Ouch!  Hey!”

The next thing he knew one of those nasty kids stood nose to nose with him. He cringed, waiting for the usual barrage of mean words.  Instead he heard, “You know, you’re okay after all. I’ll be your friend if you put on some clothes.”

“Deal!” glowed Cupid.

“I’m gonna try that again,” thought Cupid, because Cupid certainly wasn’t stupid.
