The Thanksgiving Turkey
By Kristiana L., Contest #200811

For Thanksgiving this year, we're having turkey. Yes, that's right, turkey. Of course I've never had turkey for Thanksgiving, which is crazy baloney, but this very year I'm having my very first bite of turkey.

In the dining room, I saw people hovering over the glorious turkey that my mother had cooked. I heard “oohs” and “aahs” and then I heard a high-pitched shriek.

“That turkey is alive!” my aunt screeched.

Everyone scurried from the house, and my mouth flew open in horror. The turkey was alive, and it was flapping its way towards me!  I smacked the turkey down and the poor bird fell flat on the floor. It twitched some more and then laid still. I knew it was now dead.

My mother came in and saw the turkey on our carpet. “What in the world happened?”

“Mommy,” I asked, “do people eat turkeys alive... or dead?”
