A Conversation

Frankly, my dear, Earth Day is nothing but a game of political one-upmanship!

How can you say that? The Earth is so special. Why, look there. See how the water shimmers in the moonlight. Doesn’t that sight leave you breathless?

Yeah, breathless - like all the people who have asthma because Earth’s air is so polluted.

People! That’s what makes Earth special. It has life.

People are the problem. Take that beautiful water; in the daylight it’s brown and slimy. People dump waste products in the rivers and streams that kill the fish.

Well, people are trying to change their ways.

People don’t appreciate their planet and they’ll kill it off. Before long Earth will be just another black rock in the universe.

Oh, don’t tilt your orbit! You’re just jealous of Earth Day. Remember how upset you were last light year over Proxima Centauri Day.

I just think my handsome physique deserves recognition.

Right! Let me just make a note to myself to propose Saturn Day at the next conference of the Galaxy!

Oh, Venus, would you? I would be so honored, so…humble!
