Once upon a time, a young girl named Anne sat upon a small couch under a window, with tears falling down her cheeks. She had been sad lately, and had been getting into fights with her parents. She had visited a psychologist, but he was of no help. Her problem wasn’t intellectual. She felt she had a piece of her heart missing.
At the age of one month, she was adopted from the small Central American country of Guatemala, She was brought to Canada where she lived with Patricia and Charles Smith.. She was now 15, and had started feeling emotions she had never felt before.
One day, her mom couldn’t stand the fighting anymore, and she talked with Anne.
“What do real parents do? They feed you, love you with all their hearts, and look after you from the time you are a baby. You may not feel like we are your real parents, but we love you like any other biological parent would love their own kid. A family does not have to look alike to be complete”.
Anne began to feel better, knowing that even though she wasn’t with her biological parents, she was happy.
Elizabeth is a teenager living in Canada. She loves writing and whishes to be a journalist when she grows up. She was the inspiration for her story, as she is adopted from Guatemala, and found it difficult to adjust to the emotional feelings of not feeling a part of her family.
