With July 4th just days away, Annette found herself missing her home in America, but she had been kidnapped while in Germany. She had gone there nearly a month ago to visit the land at the advice of her counselor. Annette had no idea what these mad men wanted with her, but she knew it couldn’t be anything good.
Annette wrapped her long thin arms around her little sister; Alice, who had come with her. Alice began to cry and Annette whispered soothing words to her sister. The two of them had planned their escape over the course of their imprisonment.
As night fell, Annette and Alice put their plan into action. Annette stole the key off a sleeping guard and fiddled with the smooth metal of the lock until it clicked open. She caught the lock in mid air before it could fall onto the cool stone floor and wake the guards. Then they snuck through the maze of hallways and corridors, and found their way out of Neuschwanstein Castle. A thick fog surrounded them and the wind whipped around viciously as Annette and Alice escaped to the nearby town of Fussen, and Neuschwanstein Castle reluctantly released them.
