It was not that Sam didn't appreciate his mom cooking a nutritious meal. But Bobby had been Sam's best friend since second grade. They had played on the same squish ball team, and in middle school had experienced their first kisses from the same girl, Lonnie Whistle.
After Sam's dad lost his job, Bobby didn't seem to come around quite so often. Probably got tired of mac 'n' cheese and those Bags o' Noodles. Mom told Sam that Bobby had dropped by that afternoon, to catch up and see how Sam was doing.
Sam picked up his spoon and dug in. It was nice to have meat in the stew again, even if it was a little salty.
