A Cave Without a Name

Summer plans were going great as I planned an adventurous trip for two of my friends and myself. Traveling to New Mexico to discover unexplored caves hidden underground and filled with spectacular formations. A natural hole in the earth with two exits. Our goal was to claim and name the cave.

It took two days to locate the cavern entrance. We hiked up the mountain over dangerous land. Once located, we started to go down the steep wet hole in the ground and the adventure started.

We went through holes and tunnels. But then as my last friend was going through one tunnel, the ground began to shake, rocks started to fall, and trapped her inside. Since she was unresponsive, we presumed her dead. We continued to search for an exit. As we entered different rooms and sections of the cave it seemed to tell a story. A story of survival. Giving us the strength to continue.

Then it happened, a bright light and the end of the tunnel. Before we left, we said goodbye to our friend. We sealed the cave for safety reasons. This cave is dangerous.

The Cave is now called Amistad, a Spanish word meaning friendship.
