For thanksgiving this year, I would like to share the story of my father’s accident with an old cab he used to ride for more than ten years. One day a garbage truck went off course and drove into him. Father didn’t have time to swerve out of its way and…Bang!
Father went home to tell us what had happened. The front lights of the cab were wrecked. The taxi operator demanded five thousand pesos to fix the damage done to his property. And the garbage man was sent to the clinic for further examinations.
At home, mother got mad. “Where in God’s hands are we going to get 5,000 pesos?” she asked. Somehow, she had reason to be angry or, should I say, a little worried. We didn’t have the money.
Thank God an old and trusted friend of the family lent us the money we needed. Some would consider this a serious family problem. But guess why this situation made me happy? Simply because it was a blessing--other people have faced more tragic situations, but God is good for He didn’t let my father acquire a single bruise. The car might be wrecked but father is safe.
