It was a dark and stormy night. Everyone was hunkered down: Sam and Fred, Bonnie and Cathy, Scamp and Grace, and all the other dogs along with Thumper and Pete, Boots and Smoky, Cleo and Cougar, and all the other cats, all tucked safely in their beds, comfortably snoozing away the night. Everyone was sleeping, although the thunder was booming and the lightening was snapping.
Well, not everyone was sleeping. Poor Clyde. The little cavalier spaniel had always been afraid of thunder. As a cavalier spaniel, there is nothing “cavalier” about Clyde. He simply could not stand loud noises, and thunder especially unsettled him. And on the night in question we were having a real screamer.
Poor Clyde was tucked away underneath the covers with me, shaking and whining, no doubt thinking to himself that the world as he knew it was at an end. Then there was one very loud sonic boom, which caused the windows to shake and the silverware to rattle!
Then things got quiet, the wind died down, and the lightening lessened. There was not a sound to be heard except for the faint and steady rhythm of snoring coming from beneath the covers.
