It was not that Sam didn't appreciate his mom cooking a 'nutritious' meal; it's just that she hardly knew the meaning of the word. True, there were plenty of veggies.... but they were sautéed in a pound of butter or barely peeking through mounds of melted cheddar cheese.
"Don’t play with your food," Sam's mother stated as she noticed him picking off the highly-processed bacon bits that had been generously sprinkled on top of the large dollop of sour cream resting on his baked potato. "I made a nice, healthy dinner for you tonight."
"Healthy enough to kill me," Sam thought, but said quite the opposite. "Looks good, Mom. Thanks." Guess it wasn't her fault that she hadn't studied up on nutrition or acquired the number of vegetarian and health conscious friends that he had at college. Maybe during this spring break, he could find time to encourage her to buy some organic and whole foods as well as limit the amount of sugar, fats, and salt in her meals. But tonight was not the night! She looked way too happy as she served a huge, fatty ribeye steak onto his plate and said, "Chow down!"
