Summer plans were going to be a blast as I attend a family reunion. I love to reminisce about the past. My favorite thing to do is to listen to the tales of my parents as they recant the past.
My father was born on a mountain top in Kentucky, in a log cabin no less. I recall one tale in which he wanted to go to a baseball game, but his dad wanted him to stay behind and fertilize the potatoes. These were hard times for mountain folks, no money and little food combined with large-sized families, daddy had 7 brothers and sisters.
Well, any way, he decided to take a short cut on the potatoes and he proceeded to fertilize the first two rows just right but as he thought about the ball game he couldn’t help himself and he dumped the entire bag of fertilizer on the next few rows and then took off to the game.
In the summer after the crops came in it became clear what little Charlie had done. Now his father had nine mouths to feed and only bite-size potatoes to feed them!
