Sophie's Morning

The air smelled of summer rain, moist and musky. Young Sophie opened the window beside her bed side. It was the first day of school and Sophie was very excited. She was looking forward to 2nd grade.

She put her nose against the screen, smelled the air; and wondered what she should wear for that day. It was gloomy and dark outside, so Sophie decided to go with her all-time favorite daisy-pink long sleeve, her ever-so-blue jeans, a comfy sweatshirt, and her tennis shoes. Sophie got ready for school, brushing her teeth and her hair.

Soon enough, it was time for breakfast. Sophie's mother served her an over-easy egg with bacon resembling a smiley face and a cup of orange juice. Sophie devoured her breakfast and told her mom to hurry so they wouldn't be late for school. Her mom agreed, took off her apron and grabbed her purse and keys.

Sophie and her mother drove off to school. They arrived soon enough. Sophie could barely stay in her seat during class. Finally, Sophie was at her first day of 2nd grade.
