Kyle was sitting in his wheelchair feeling, as he often did, that the world was out to get him. Oh, sure, that girl had definitely been eyeing him at lunch. But that had been the high point of his day so far. If a day starts out bad, it’ll continue getting worse. This was Kyle’s philosophy.
Today, those words had proven absolutely true. It had started with a comparatively trivial thing at breakfast – they had been out of oatmeal and some of their milk had gone sour. And then there was the mishap at the corner of Swallow and Parkview. The lump on his head from that incident still hurt. And the fact that he had actually managed to tip the wheelchair completely backwards still brought a flush to his cheeks. But there it was. As far as he was concerned, the day couldn't get any worse.
But then there was the homework he’d inadvertently forgotten, the accident in the hall between first and second periods (He was sure the girl he’d run into would never forgive him for that). And now this. It was all he needed – a perfect ending to a perfect day …Rain.
