The Red, The White, and The Blue

With July 4th just days away my mind is tuned into the colors red, white and blue. My name is Betsy and I live in a small town in Pennsylvania. My parents never really speak much about our flag or its colors, or what the colors even represent, so I was forced to learn it myself.

The vertical white stripes represent purity and innocence. The red represents hardiness and valor. And the blue represent vigilance, perseverance & justice. These are a lot of big words that didn't mean a whole lot to me, so I did more researching.

White-Purity and innocence stand for the thought of being pure and free from sin. Red-Hardiness is the will to resist hardships, while valor is the strength of mind and body to be able to stand firm. Blue-vigilance being to keep alert and avoid danger, perseverance being the ability to stand strong, and justice, to conform to truth, fact, or reason.

Interesting that these three colors, the red, the white and the blue, could stand for things of such importance. I wonder really though, if the people running our country know what these colors represent?

Tori B. [Womelsdorf, PA] is a 9 years old 4th grader who loves to read books and write stories.  She hopes someday to be an author.
