It was not that Sam didn't appreciate his mom cooking a nutritious meal; he just worried that the love of his life, Karline, would like his mother AND enjoy the home-cooking. Karline had been orphaned as a young girl, but was so rich she could have anyone and anything she wanted.
He stepped to the window as the limousine drew up. There was the matter of her bodyguard, too. Sam told his mother that Karline would arrive with a friend in tow, a large man.
Mom smiled and set an extra place. He jumped at the sound of the doorbell.
Sam introduced his fiancée, “Karline Cookson.”
“Oh, but you’re that singer, I’ve seen you on the T.V…” she started.
“Yes, Carrie Colson.”
“And my Sam met you in Africa, at that--Mission?”
“Yes,” Karline replied, smiling. She quickly added, “I looked like a farm-girl and we fell in love. That’s what I like about your Sam, Mom--he loved me when he didn’t know I was rich or famous. Now I’ll have a mom, and,” she drew in a deep breath through her nose and said, “delicious home-cooked meals at last.”
