“What? There’s actually a National Save a Spider Day?” As soon as she’d said it, Edie knew it was a mistake.
“Well, I didn’t know there was a ‘You’re a moron’ Day either. But you’re the queen of them if you bought that one,” Edie’s older brother howled with laughter as he dangled the plastic spider in front of her. “It’s not even real,” he teased.
Edie could feel her cheeks morph into a bright red. She wanted to crawl into a hole. Not that she cared what her idiot brother thought of her. But his friend Mike, now that was another matter. Mike with the dreamy brown eyes, cute dimples, and shaggy golden brown hair. Mike who was now snickering at her right along with Darren.
“You’re just a couple of jerks!” she pouted. Mike’s laughter pierced her like a dagger and she wanted to just die on the spot. She stomped off to nurse her wound, vowing to get revenge if it was the last thing she ever did.
