Thanksgiving
by Katelyn S., Contest #200811

For Thanksgiving this year, I was supposed to cook a turkey and bring it to Granny’s, but that's not how things turned out. Life had been hectic since the first of November, and I had spent most of my spare time Christmas shopping. Between working fifty hours a week and spending time with my two toddlers, I never got around to buying that turkey. And it was a good thing, too.

The outbreak originated from people eating meat. Of course, by the time they figured that out, half the world's population was dead it was too late to do anything about it.

Scientists are calling the disease Moroism and saying it originates from Romanian folklore. I guess we’re too scared to say the word vampire, though there really is no other word for what people are turning into.

Humans were infected with the Moroism virus through their consumption of all types of meats. No one really knows how animals got the disease in the first place. It wasn’t long before the F.D.A. banned all animal meats and meat byproducts, but it wasn’t soon enough. Looks like the vampires are the only ones who are going to feast from now on.
