Thinking Back

Kyle was sitting in his wheelchair, thinking back on the times he could do things like normal children. He was 9 years old when he lost his ability to walk. The accident that left him crippled happened when he and his friends were jumping off rocks into the water.

"Carl, will you jump with me?" Kyle had asked his friend.

"Yeah, sure," Carl had nodded and held Kyle's hand.

In a matter of seconds Kyle had slipped off the edge. Holding on to a rock near him, Carl had tried to pull Kyle up, but Carl's hands had been slippery and Kyle had slipped and fallen.

"Hey Kyle, wanna come to the library?" Carl and Joe now asked.

"No thanks. You guys go ahead"

Kyle's sister came and sat in the chair next to him. “Why don’t you go with them?" Kate asked.

"Because it's not fair"

"What's not fair?"

"They can walk"

"Kyle, you can do other fun things like going to the movies, or the library."

"Thanks Kate. I think I feel better. I'm going to go. Bye”

Kate sat alone watching the sun set. The best thing that ever happened to Kyle was he learned a lot.
