I dug my toes into the soft white sand under the refulgent moon and held her hand. I whispered, “Don’t be sad. I will be watching over you everyday.I love you.”
We were childhood friends. I knew she was my soul mate because we shared so much in common.
College life had come around. A different world, big student population, busy schedules and academic pressure. I was stressed, restless. I collapsed in the house and remember nothing of my stay in the hospital. Injections…insipid medicine…and a sordid room. I was diagnosed with brain cancer, and I have only one month left in my life. It seemed to be a restriction from my dearest Hannah.
Tonight I invited her to go to the seashore. It was dark; all you could hear was the sound of the breeze and the waves. I turned on the colored lights I’d previously setup and the beach changed into wonderful scenery. I approached Hannah while playing the violin. She was staring at me…smiling…tears falling.
She hugged me tight and whispered, "I never imagined that someone would do something like this…”
Restless hearts found their flight that night, shielded by trusted arms and sealed with an agreement.
