On the way to Grandma's house, Kenny the Kangaroo ran into Rudy the Raccoon, and he was munching on a delicious-looking treat.

“What’s that you’re eating?” Kenny asked him.

“It’s called ice cream,” said Rudy.

“I’ve never eaten this thing on a stick,” said Kenny. “Is it good?”

“It sure is! Would you like to taste one?” said Rudy, reaching into a small paper bag and pulling out an ice cream treat for Kenny.

“Thank you,” said Kenny.

After removing the wrapper and taking a small bite, Kenny’s eyes lit up.  “This thing called ice cream is delicious!” he said.  “I’m going to buy one for Grandma.”

Quickly, he hopped into the local store and paid for the tasty treat.  Then he put it inside his kangaroo pouch and continued his long, hot journey to Grandma’s house. One hour later, he finally arrived with a big smile on his face.

“I’ve got a surprise for you, Grandma,” he said, excitedly.

Slipping his hand into his pouch, he found nothing but wetness.  The ice cream treat was gone.

“They stole your treat, Grandma!” he yelled. “And all they left is the wrapper and the stick.”

Mary Vela is from San Antonio, TX. A published author, she is currently working on a series of children stories related to growing pains.  Two longer length manuscripts are also in the works: "The Mystery at the Old Shack" an expanded story about her grandfather's experience as a grave digger and "A Miracle for Juanito," a story about a mother's struggle to heal her crippled son. A recent winner of two CCF stories, “Lucky’s Lick” and “The Value of a Seed,” Mary also plans to write a full-length Romance novel.
